Fall & Spring Core Programs
Our season begins at the respective Fall & Spring Kick Off events at Thomas Starr King Middle School, where players will meet their teammates and pick up their uniforms.
All players are part of balanced teams and we may ask players to attend an assessment to determine skill level.
All players play at least half of each game attended.
The season is Open Registration and we will try to place every applicant on a team. Unfortunately, in some situations, we will not be able to place players due to a lack of volunteers. Team formation requires coaches, referees and team parents. Players will be turned away if we do not have sufficient volunteers. Consider volunteering in one of these key roles.
Multiple training opportunities will be offered in the weeks approaching the season start and the first few weeks of the season. These training sessions are free, and your resulting certification will remain good forever, meaning you will not need to re-certify each year as a coach or referee.
Due to our size, we are no longer able to accommodate player requests. This is in line with all the other regions of our size due to impracticality. We may also not be able to accommodate coaches requesting to coach together, as we try our best to form balanced teams.

AYSO usesbirth year registration to determine age divisionsin order to align with the U.S. Soccer Player Development Initiatives.
8UB and above is the boys division and 8UG and above is the girls division. In some younger divisions, these are single year groups. In older divisions, two birth years are combined. 4U, 5U and 6U are co-ed.
What is AYSO 4U Playground?
AYSO Playground is a child development program. The objective of this program is to help develop, in collaboration with the parent or guardian, the child’s fundamental motor skills using soccer as a common thread.
Is there competition in AYSO Playground?
There is no competition in AYSO Playground Soccer! The goal of AYSO Playground is to allow kids to develop fundamental motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and social interaction in a fun and safe AYSO environment. Children get to gradually discover the game for themselves while bonding with parents or guardians. What is AYSO 5U Schoolyard Jamboree?
In Jamboree, each team is comprised of three players and each player has a parent (or other adult) with them on the field. The children learn soccer skills like kicking, dribbling, and throwing in the ball, but in a low-pressure setting. Jamboree is about exposing children to soccer as a game, without the pressure to win.
How do parents participate?
While their children are playing, parent volunteers help along side the coaches to guide the game. There are only a few reasons to stop play in Jamboree games. If a child is not playing well with others, or if play must pause for injury, substitution, confusion, or to watch a flock of birds fly by, parents can quickly direct attention back to the game.
Is there competition in AYSO 5U Schoolyard Jamboree?
In Jamboree, goals are not counted to determine who wins – every player is a winner. Young players need to get a feel for the ball and the field, so even though there are adults all around and many opportunities to offer instruction, the emphasis is on fun and play. It’s a different kind of game in 5U, but the children still wear jerseys or pinnies, cleats and shin guards. Best of all, they find out that soccer is something they can do!
EPIC (formerly known as VIP) Special Needs Program - 5 years old to 99 years old (if you know someone who can't play on a mainstream team because of a physical or mental disability, please tell them about our VIP program. We have professional coaching, enthusiastic volunteers and a great program... we just need more VIP players!) -
A "Move-up" in AYSO occurs when a player who is age eligible for a Division is given permission by Region 1567 to play "up" to a Division with older children. This typically occurs when a child’s family wishes to play "up" in the next highest Division because they have demonstrated particular advanced development with skills and emotional maturity.
Allowing a player to "move-up" will be determined by the Region 1567 Board or those designated by the Region 1567 Board to make the decision. By its very nature, the decision to allow a child to move up or not is subjective. Therefore, Region 1567 will utilize whatever resources available to properly assess what is best for the player, family, and the Region. The decision will be made solely by the Region 1567 Board or those members of the board appointed by our Regional Commissioner to make the decision (typically Division Directors along with our Region Technical Director, etc.). Parents may also provide whatever information they believe may best assist the Region in making its determination. Move up requests beyond a one year age difference will not be considered except for rare and unusual circumstances. Region 1567 will take physical development, skills development, and psycho-social factors into account. Once a decision has been made, it may be appealed to the Regional Commissioner for a final review.
Please be aware that it may work better for your child to have him or her play in their proper age group even though other players in the same grade are playing in the older one.

Only the coach determines the team's practice time. If you can't coach, options for parents whose children are unable to attend their team's regular practice are:
Practice with another team and play games with your assigned team. The Region can guide you to a practice that may fit your schedule.
Drop to the waitlist and wait for a spot to open on another team with a different practice night. And while our goal is to place every child who registers, competitive balance is the first consideration when filling those openings, and your player is not guaranteed placement.
